Kentucky HVAC Technicians & Contractors

Kentucky currently offers 4 separate HVAC licenses:

  • Limited Journeyperson – Duct Mechanic
  • Limited Journeyperson – Installation Mechanic
  • Journeyperson HVAC Mechanic
  • Master HVAC Contractor
Prerequisites to getting licensed (Journeyperson licenses):
  • Must have 2 years working experience (or 3000 hours)
Steps to getting licensed (Journeyperson licenses):
  1. Pay the application fee of $50
  2. Schedule and take the appropriate exam. The fee is $100.
Prerequisites to getting licensed (Contractor license):
  • Must have 2 years working experience (or 3000 hours)
Steps to getting licensed (Contractor license):
  1. Pay the application fee of $250.
  2. Register for and pass both a Business exam as well as a trade exam. The fees for both exams are $160 total.
